Coco Twain Tells the Truth

By Judith Porter

Authors I Admire:

Favorite Authors

  1. Fannie Flagg: A great combination—humorous and a Southern writer.
  2. Clyde Edgerton: He creates wonderful characters and rich text.
  3. Ron McLarty: He's such a joy to read.
  4. Barbara Pym: I can't explain it but she fascinates me. Understated and low in plot but worth a look.
  5. Garrison Keillor: What's not to admire? I guess you’d say I am impressed by writers who are, first of all, storytellers.
  6. E.F. Benson: His British social satire is delightful. I'm a Luciaphile.
  7. Stephen McCauley: He has such sensitive characters and a great sense of humor.
  8. Joe Coomer: He has so much talent for developing quirky characters.
  9. P.G. Wodehouse: Like E.F. Benson, his books are so funny and timeless.
  10. Kate Atkinson: I just read Case Histories. She continues to amaze me. All her books are worth reading.

So are these my top ten?? Probably not, but what can I say? I love to read and I love writers who make me stop and think about their style, their message, their talent and humor.

Just read a good book

Really enjoyed Sarah Turnbull's memoir "Almost French. Delightful. Also enjoyed "Rules of the Wild" by Francesca Marciano. It reminded me of my short time in Zambia and Zimbabwe.

other works

I haven't read any other Richard Harris book, but I really enjoyed Pompeii: a novel. When I toured Pompeii in the late Sixties I was haunted by the images and the history of the area. This book captures some of the feelings I experienced. A very entertaining book to read.

Also, I like Robert Wilson's series with PI Bruce Medway in West Africa. His gritty style is intersting. He keeps a story moving. There are four books in this series. I've read two: Instruments of Darkness and The Big Killing. Looking forward to Blood is Dirt and A Darkening Stain.
